When you think of a group tour (or an escorted tour), many have a preconception that it means a large coach with at least fifty others. It’s quite like cruising, in that when you think of a cruise, many think of the large heavily commercialised cruise ships first, but in reality, there is a whole world out there of different tours suitable for everyone.
Tailor-made trips are great, which do give a great deal of flexibility and personalisation – however, there are benefits of travelling with a group with little of the downside.
Many of the companies we work with only operate with small-group sizes, usually these will be in the ‘teens’, sometimes a little more, some less – many of these give time so you can explore at your own pace, and as we know with Magari Tours – can give you the option of eating as a couple for dinner.
These also work well if travelling on your own. Instead of shouldering the cost of your own driver, guide or maybe car hire if you were doing longer distances, the costs are shared across the group. Yes, single rooms are always a contentious issue, but essentially a hotel will charge nearly enough the same if one person is occupying it, or two, or three. However, many escorted tour operators negotiate a special rate to accommodate singles that you wouldn’t get on your own.
There’s also an element of comradery as a small group, all in the same adventure together – which is ideal for those travelling alone, or as a couple of like to be sociable. We have known clients travel on trips like these and have found lifelong friends, and even travel with them on trips in the future. After all, many people are travelling on these tours for the same reason as you!
If you have never considered a tour as part of a larger group before, we’re here to advise and help make sure you have the tour which is right for you.
