Egypt
For anyone with a keen interest in ancient history, Egypt must surely be at the top of the list having some of the most historically significant sites anywhere in the world. Not only that, for the modern traveller there are a number of ways you can experience this fascinating country in luxury and comfort.
You can’t really go to Egypt and not see the Pyramids. We have always recommended flying to Cairo and seeing these at the start of your holiday, combined with a stay at the famous Mena House Hotel, and their excellent lights show.
An excellent way to see much of Egypt is by river and a cruise on the Nile. Starting in Luxor you visit Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, the high dam at Aswan, Edfu and even take a flight to Abu Simbel and the Temple of Ramses II.
Then fly back to Cairo and see all the exhibits in the Egyptian Museum, as well as experiencing the bustling city with many souks and citadels.
For those who like a more sedate experience, the Red Sea resorts of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada offer great beach options as well as being one of the world’s best places to dive.
