You can visit Sri Lanka all year round, but it’s probably best in our winter. In the summer, head to the east coast for the better weather.

From here, head inland to Yala National Park for two nights of wildlife safaris, followed by further game drives in Udawalawe, another of the island’s top reserves known for its elephants and birdlife.

A relaxed itinerary allows for plenty of downtime at the hotel, which offers a range of family-friendly activities. Travelling south through Sri Lanka’s scenic central highlands, you’ll reach Kandy, famed for its Temple of the Tooth and deep-rooted Buddhist traditions. After arriving in Colombo, your Sri Lankan journey begins with a relaxed coastal stay in Puttalam, exploring the Kalpitiya Peninsula. From there, the itinerary shifts to the wildlife-rich Wilpattu National Park, where two safari drives offer a chance to spot leopards, elephants, and sloth bears. Next, you head further north to Mannar Island, with its windswept coastline, wild donkey sanctuary, and early-morning birdwatching at Adam’s Bridge.

Your adventure continues into Tamil northern Sri Lanka, with time in the cultural hub of Jaffna and a catamaran cruise to remote islands in Palk Bay. After exploring sacred temples on Nainativu and Delft islands, you return to Jaffna before heading south by train to Anuradhapura. Here, you’ll delve into Sri Lanka’s ancient history, visiting serene temples and archaeological sites. Yala National Park

Sri Lanka Wildlife Tour

Arriving in Colombo, you will be transferred to Negombo for an overnight stay. Enjoy a leisurely boat ride on Negombo Lagoon, observing the bird life. The following day, head to Wilpattu National Park for an afternoon safari, where you’ll spot wildlife like sloth bears and deer. Afterward, continue to Anuradhapura for a two-night stay. The next day includes a morning safari in Wilpattu followed by a guided tour of the ancient capital of Anuradhapura. Afterward, travel to Kandy, exploring the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Next, head to Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, a UNESCO Natural Site, for bird-watching walks and a chance to observe exotic wildlife. Continue to Udawalawe National Park for safaris and a visit to the Elephant Transit Home, before making your way to Yala National Park, where you can enjoy safaris to spot leopards and other wildlife. From Yala, travel to Galle for a stay, with opportunities for whale watching or bird watching, followed by a visit to Galle Fort and its historic sites. After a final day of leisure, you’ll be transferred to Colombo for your return flight home.

Kandy

Best of Sri Lanka

Arriving in Colombo, you’ll be welcomed and taken to your hotel before embarking on an orientation tour of the capital and enjoying a welcome dinner. The following day, drive to Habarana in the Cultural Triangle, where you’ll explore the ancient city of Anuradhapura and Mihintale, the birthplace of Buddhism. The next day includes a visit to Sigiriya’s rock fortress and Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital. Afterward, head to Kandy, where you’ll visit the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Temple of the Tooth Relic, followed by a cultural performance.

The tour continues with a scenic drive to Nuwara Eliya in tea country, where you’ll tour a tea plantation and visit Horton Plains for the famous World’s End viewpoint. Afterward, travel south to Yala National Park for safaris, spotting wildlife like leopards and elephants. Then, visit Galle’s historical sites before heading to Bentota for a relaxing beach day. On the final day, transfer back to Colombo for your flight home.
