Mexico

Mexico offers far more than just sun-soaked shores and luxury hotels. While it easily rivals the Caribbean for its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, it also stands out for its rich culture, characterful cities, and depth of history. The food is excellent, the hospitality is warm, and the hotel options range from contemporary coastal retreats to beautifully restored colonial mansions. It’s this combination of comfort and culture that makes Mexico such a rewarding destination.

Beyond the coast, Mexico’s landscapes and heritage are strikingly diverse. Its ancient civilisations—most famously the Maya and the Aztecs—left behind awe-inspiring sites, from the jungle-clad ruins of Palenque to the monumental pyramid of Chichen Itza. These archaeological wonders are scattered across the country and serve as powerful reminders of Mexico’s deep historical roots. Exploring them offers a fascinating glimpse into a world that predates European contact by thousands of years.

The country’s towns and cities are equally captivating. From the colourful streets of San Cristóbal de las Casas and the grand colonial architecture of Mérida, to the energy and layered history of Mexico City itself, each place has its own story and rhythm. Markets buzz with life, plazas hum with music, and murals tell the tales of revolution, resilience and identity. For those willing to look beyond the beach, Mexico offers a journey as rich and varied as its landscapes.

With the 2024 Advantage Conference taking place in Costa Mujeres just north of Cancun, we couldn’t not take the opportunity to doing a more exploring along the famous Riviera Maya and to see (and stay) at a selection of the best hotels along the Caribbean coastline.

Firstly, it’s probably worth mentioning that All Inclusive is probably as good as anything, as there isn’t really anywhere you can walk to – there is one main road from Cancun to Tulum and all of the hotels are literally off that main road. The exception is Tulum, which has a town and you certainly do get a more laid-back vibe – almost an antidote from the All-Inclusives further up the coast.

It’s also worth saying there is something for everyone, capturing every budget (taking into account the cost of the airfare to get there, which can be quite expensive if travelling in the premium classes – although hopefully the re-introduction of Virgin Atlantic later in 2025 will make a bit of a difference!)
