In contrast to many other countries around the world, Sri Lanka is removing the existing visa for British travellers this winter, as a way to encourage more of us to travel there.
The previous e-visa scheme was stopped abruptly recently, and from 1 October 2024, British Citizens will be able to travel to Sri Lanka visa-free for up to 30 days. Even though it’s a great destination to explore, with so many cultural and wildlife sites on the island it would be unusual for tourists to stay any longer than 30 days.
Whilst the new regime applies to the UK and 33 other nations, it doesn’t include Ireland (even though several other European countries include Poland, Belgium, Spain and France. It also applies to the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
The Sri Lankan Minister of Tourism has confirmed this arrangement will be in place for six months, which will take us to March 2025.
