A few more details have emerged from the European Union about the rollout of the new Entry/Exit system, the new digital border system – which also includes Switzerland and Norway. Although it was expected to be up and running last year, it’s currently expected to start, albeit rolled out gradually from October (we don’t have a date for the moment).

You’ll need to provide fingerprints and they’ll take a photo of you on arrival – and through the rollout period, they will also stamp your passport as well. Once the system has been rolled out over Europe and the wider Schengen area – the countdown will begin to introduce the ETIAS ‘evisa’, but it’s unlikely to become mandatory to have it until 2027.
