For the first time in five years, the government are going to increase the cost of applying for a passport from February 2nd 2023.
Although it’s due to be brought before Parliament, the proposal is for adult passports to increase from £75.50 to £82.50, and from £49 to £53.50 for children – all applicable for online submissions. It’s more expensive to apply by post.
Simon Calder at The Independent has calculated that anyone’s passport who is due to expire next January would be better off renewing their passport now, and being the winter the turnaround times have recently been considerably less than the advertised 10 weeks.
