In Portugal

Portugal has a very diverse landscape and presents opportunities for different travellers. From a city break in the capital Lisbon or Porto to the north, or combine with a river cruise along the Douro valley, visiting port estates and lodges.

I will focus on the Algarve in this newsletter, voted recently as the best beach destination in Europe by the ‘World Travel Awards’ for the 7th time, although I’m sure some people may have a differing view.

However, this is where I live and work, and know best. The Algarve is capable of of adapting to new circumstances without altering the quality and authenticity of your experiences that can be discovered.

The Algarve has 87 blue flag beaches and 48 with the necessary accessibility for people with didibilities. Of course, the far west Atlantic coast specialises in surfing with miles of wide sandy beaches and big rolling waves.

There is a good range of accommodation from good value hotels to 5* to suit all budgets.

Sport is well catered for, many water sports, sailing and lots of good golf courses along the Algarve and tennis clubs hosting events here. Most recently, Portimao hosted its first Formula One race, and the Portuguese version of the Tour de France. There are also many bird sanctuaries for birdwatchers, along with many fine walks.

Almost forgot about the climate, its sunny! Most of the year round and one can almost forget about the occasional rail. From May to September it should be hot and sunny. The climate is temperate, and only gets colder in November to March, but as I say that, the sun is shining now in mid-November and its warm. Its has been a bonus for my own health the last couple of years, mainly due to the warm winters and outdoor healthy lifestyle.

Lastly, there is a wide variety of good restaurants and cuisines at reasonable prices. Choice of lifestyle varies from lively Albufeira and Lagos to quieter family holidays in Carvoeiro.

Well, have I helped sell it to you? I hope so, and by the way, what is so nice and friendly are the people who even understand my sense of humour and will make you feel welcome and at home here. Just pick up the phone and speak to the team at TravelTime who will be able to tailor your expectations to a wonderful holiday or short break. Whatever appeals, there is a holiday waiting for you.
