Virgin Atlantic is returning to Asia, with a new daily service to South Korea starting next year. In partnership with it’s alliance partners, Korean Air – there will be a daily service from London Heathrow to Seoul from the start of the summer timetable next spring (that’s the end of March), which is an ideal time to go to see the cherry blossom (in a quieter fashion that you would find in Japan!).
Even better is that the service will be connecting onto the wider Korean network, allowing seamless connections to other destinations in Asia as well a number of cities in both Australia and New Zealand. Even as just a stopover destination, in Seoul, you can experience a striking blend of old and new. Start with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace to catch the royal guard ceremony and wander the expansive grounds steeped in history. Then head to Bukchon Hanok Village to stroll among centuries-old traditional houses that now host galleries, craft shops and quiet tea rooms. For a contrast in pace, make your way to Myeongdong for a whirlwind of Korean skincare, fashion, and sizzling street food like tteokbokki or hotteok. If time allows, take in panoramic views from Namsan Seoul Tower, especially striking at sunset.
