As I completed the final listing for our annual ski group holiday, the memories flashed through my mind from March 2020, all packed and ready to depart when Macron announced the closing of the French ski resorts. We were all devastated but little did we realise then that it would be so long before we hit the slopes again.
So 2 years on here we were, skis, boots, and helmets all packed and ready for our Gatwick departure to Grenoble. It was a stress-free check-in and minimum documentation for those who are fully vaccinated and after a short flight, we were winding our way along the mountain roads. It felt amazing to be travelling again and we were all buzzing with excitement.
Our destination was Les Arcs 2000 part of the Paradaski area of the French Alps with slopes rising up to 3000m and its’ naturally dry and cold climate gives some of the best snow conditions in the Alps. We stayed at the Club Med resort of Les Arcs Extreme which is an adult-only property and offers the complete ‘all inclusive’ holiday, in fact the only money I spent was the tipping of our ski guide!
Included in the price is the flights, transfers, accommodation, gourmet cuisine (for which Club Med is famous), ski passes, lessons or guiding, all drinks, snacks and apres-ski entertainment. In addition to the skiing they also offered yoga, pilates, stretch and body conditioning classes. There was something for everyone.
Covid protocols were observed with the wearing of masks on the plane and the coach transfer to resort. Routine cleaning and disinfecting was very evident in resort and the majority of the staff still wore masks although the restrictions in France had just been relaxed.
Once we were out in the mountains Covid was a distant memory or had never event existed! Skiing of course is a very ‘Covid Safe’ sport as it’s out in fresh air, wearing gloves & face masks and socially distanced!
