In Greece

It’s been a number of years since I went to Mark Warner resort, having travelled to Neilson and Club Med resorts more recently. Mark Warner was a favourite when James was young, and of course the hotels and destinations in which they operate have long since changed.

Therefore, it was nice to be invited, along with a small group of travel colleagues on a hosted trip to experience what’s new at their Paleros resort in Greece. It’s located on the Ionian coast, with a relatively short transfer of around 30 minutes from Preveza airport.

Mark Warner offers packages with dedicated charter flights from London Gatwick, with regional departures also available from Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol, and provides coach transfers for all the flights they offer. For those who are unfamiliar with the ‘beach club’ concept, you’ll find everything you could possibly want on site, with multiple sport and water sport facilities, land-based activities and excellent kids facilities. However, it’s not an ‘all-inclusive ’, and the general feeling is you can do as much or as little as you like.

Located in a sheltered bay, Paleros has wonderfully calm conditions in the morning which are ideal for water skiing, wakeboarding, swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. The winds build in the afternoon and are great for those who want to go sailing or windsurfing. You don’t have to be a professional; it’s also a great place to pick up something new. Expert instructors are on hand if you need them! If you prefer the activities on dry land, Paleros also has plenty to keep you busy. There are three tennis courts, two padel courts and pickleball, alongside cycling, fitness classes, mountain biking and a whole host of other activities.

However, of course you have the option to be as active as you want to be. There are three freshwater pools, a large family pool, a separate children’s pool and an adult-only pool tucked away in the gardens.

Families are well catered for, and there’s plenty of space around the main pool and beach with it feeling overcrowded. That’s something that runs through the entire resort though, in that it’s well thought out for families, offering a range of kid’s clubs from 2 to 17, with additional childcare available for babies and toddlers from four months. For older children, the emphasis is more on adventure and making friends. Kayaking, pool games, and beach activities, along with the water sports are available for them without following their parents around the whole time.

The board basis at Mark Warner is half board. That’s a full buffet breakfast and evening meal every day. With two restaurants and three bars, you’ll have plenty of choice, from relaxed daytime drinks to evening cocktails. The beach bar is the social hub of the resort, with low-key entertainment, quizzes, music or just chatting with other guests.

Paleros

We know many of you like to get off resort at times as well. The village is Paleros is about a thirty-minute walk or gentle cycle ride away. It’s more of a traditional Greek seaside town, with a few tavernas and a harbour. It’s popular to cycle there during the day for lunch, or it’s also ideal for a wander in the evening. Further afield, you’ll find boat trips to nearby Kastos, Kalamos, Meganisi and Lefkada.

Jackie travelled with Mark Warner to Paleros in October 2026.
