SICILY: JEWEL OF THE MED

Cameras focus on the largest island in the Mediterranean, home to volcano Mount Etna and stunning coastlines. Steeped in history, as the cross-roads of the Med for millennia, Sicily’s Roman, Greek and Arab influences can be felt all over the island to this day, through its art, architecture and food. Highlights include a look at an ambitious restoration project that has been going on for more than 30 years.

CRUISING WITH SUSAN CALMAN

In the first of a two-part visit to New Zealand, the presenter visits the South Island, arriving via the west coast and the atmospheric Milford Sound. Overnight the ship sails to the city of Dunedin, where Susan takes an excursion along the Taieri Gorge Railway. She also visits Lyttleton, and experiences life on a working sheep farm. The ship then heads for the North Island, and New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. The comedian enjoys an excursion to Middle-Earth, and visits some of the locations from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film saga.

The last leg of Joanna’s Danube journey takes her across Romania, starting at the vast Iron Gates gorge. The actress travels into wild Transylvania, where she follows the trails of brown bears in the forest and discovers the secret history of Dracula’s castle. After a night in a guest house owned by King Charles and an encounter with Europe’s witches, Joanna heads towards the Danube Delta, the Black Sea, and the finale of her adventure.

The Poirot star retraces Agatha Christie’s journey to Hawaii, where she holidayed in 1922. He delves into Agatha’s passion for surfing and explores how travel informed her novels. RACE ACROSS THE WORLD

After racing nearly 13,000km over seven weeks through China, Nepal and India, the teams are about to embark on the final leg. Just 1,200km stand between them and the finish line, with a prize of £20,000 for the winning pair. They must travel through Indian’s southern states, a region with a distinctly different flavour, with new languages, cuisines and traditions. And with only seven-and-a-half hours separating the top three pairs, there’s no way of knowing who will be first past the post.
