New Brunswick
New Brunswick combines coastal beauty with forested interior and French-Acadian charm, offering a quieter side of Atlantic Canada that’s easy to explore. Along the Bay of Fundy, the world’s highest tides shape dramatic cliffs and sculpt sea caves — you can walk the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks, then return hours later to see it covered by ten metres of water. Whale-watching off the coast of Saint Andrews is among the best in the country, with chances to spot humpbacks, minkes and even the occasional right whale. Inland, the rivers and trails are ideal for kayaking, cycling and gentle hiking.
There’s a layered history here, from Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey homelands to the Acadian communities who continue to shape the province’s identity. In places like Caraquet and Bouctouche, French is still the first language, and the culture feels distinctly European — you’ll find lively music, seafood markets and coastal villages with brightly painted houses. The Loyalist legacy in Saint John adds another thread to the story, with Georgian architecture and one of Canada’s oldest city markets.
New Brunswick isn’t usually in the spotlight, but that’s part of its charm. There’s a sense of discovery here — whether it’s walking along untouched beaches, driving tree-lined coastal roads or catching a festival in a small town. It’s a province where the pace is unhurried and the welcome is warm, with just enough variety to keep things interesting from one region to the next.
