Bruges
Bruges is a city that feels like stepping into a living painting, with its cobbled streets, winding canals, and beautifully preserved medieval buildings. Walking through the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reveals stunning landmarks such as the Belfry of Bruges, the Markt Square, and the Church of Our Lady, which houses Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child. The canals that wind through the city offer a unique perspective, with boat tours providing a leisurely way to admire the fairytale-like scenery. Whether strolling along the tranquil streets or exploring hidden courtyards, Bruges exudes an atmosphere of timeless beauty.
Beyond its architectural wonders, Bruges is also a paradise for food lovers. The city is famous for its world-class chocolate shops, where artisan chocolatiers craft delicate pralines and truffles. Traditional Belgian waffles, crisp on the outside and soft within, are another irresistible treat, best enjoyed from a street-side vendor. Those looking for something more substantial will find an abundance of restaurants serving Flemish specialties, such as beef stew slow-cooked in local beer. The city is also home to some of Belgium’s best breweries, where visitors can taste iconic beers in atmospheric taverns or even take a tour of a working brewery.
Bruges offers a mix of culture and relaxation, making it ideal for those who enjoy history, art, and peaceful surroundings. The Groeningemuseum showcases an impressive collection of Flemish Primitives, while the tranquil Minnewater Park provides a perfect spot to unwind by the water. Throughout the year, Bruges hosts a variety of festivals, from the magical Christmas markets to the Procession of the Holy Blood, a historic religious event dating back to the Middle Ages. Whether discovering its rich history, indulging in its culinary delights, or simply soaking in the romantic atmosphere, Bruges leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

Our Favourite Hotels in Bruges

Dukes’ Palace
Our Favourite
Formerly the residence of the Dukes of Burgundy, this 15th-century castle was the first five-star hotel in Bruges. It has been meticulously restored conserving many unique features including a charming private chapel in the turret of the palace and opened in May 2008. Located in a quiet corner of the city just five minutes’ walk from the Market Square, it has 135 sumptuous bedrooms and a spa with a ‘salt wall’, sauna, hammam and a range of treatments using hot and cold stones. Dukes’ bar offers a tapas menu and the restaurant serves classic Belgian cuisine with a modern twist (closed Sunday and Monday). In the summer it leads out to the spacious private gardens – a real rarity in the city.

The Pand
The Pand is a gorgeous 18th-century mansion nestled in a tree-lined street, just a two-minute stroll from the Market Square. With 26 charming and individually decorated rooms, including eleven cozy junior suites adorned with Ralph Lauren fabrics, you’ll feel right at home. The hotel boasts a cozy bar, a stylish lounge, and an inviting breakfast room where you can enjoy a delightful Champagne breakfast and savour hot dishes prepared on the Aga. This award-winning boutique hotel exudes a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, making it the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate.

Heritage
The Heritage is just a stone’s throw away from the Market Square, nestled in a charming classical building built back in 1869. It’s a privately owned Relais & Châteaux hotel, and it’s got a traditional style with original antiques and paintings all over the place. There are only 22 bedrooms, a cozy lounge where you can enjoy pre-dinner drinks, a small sundeck with great views of the city, and an elegant breakfast room. The cellar goes all the way back to the 14th century and has a fitness centre. And guess what? There’s also a boutique spa called ‘Le Moment by Sothys’ that offers relaxing treatments, a sauna, and a steam bath. Oh, and the restaurant, ‘Le Mystique,’ serves up some delicious French and Flemish cuisine, using fresh, local ingredients (they’re closed from January 12th to 27th and from July 12th to August 6th).
