New York
New York City, often referred to as the “Big Apple,” is one of the most iconic and vibrant cities in the world, offering a plethora of experiences for visitors to enjoy. One of the must-visit attractions in New York is Times Square, known for its dazzling billboards, bustling atmosphere, and endless entertainment options. Visitors can explore Broadway theatres, shop at flagship stores, and dine at world-class restaurants, immersing themselves in the energy and excitement of this iconic hub.
Another iconic landmark in New York City is Central Park, a sprawling green oasis in the heart of Manhattan. Spanning 843 acres, Central Park offers visitors a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. Visitors can take leisurely strolls along winding pathways, rent a rowboat on the lake, or enjoy a picnic on the grassy lawns. The park also features attractions such as the Central Park Zoo, the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, and the iconic Bow Bridge, providing endless opportunities for exploration and relaxation.
No visit to New York City would be complete without experiencing the breathtaking skyline from atop one of its iconic skyscrapers. The Empire State Building and One World Trade Center’s observation decks offer panoramic views of the city, allowing visitors to marvel at the iconic landmarks and bustling streets below. Additionally, visitors can take a leisurely stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge, visit the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, or explore the diverse neighborhoods of Manhattan, each offering its own unique charm and attractions. With its endless array of experiences, New York City truly offers something for everyone to enjoy.
New York was the first long-haul destination I travelled to, back in the Autumn of 2005. Back then ground zero was just a hole in the ground, with damage to other buildings in the surrounding area. Fast forward nearly twenty years, and I was in New York again, and it felt like a completely different city.
To me, New York is a bit like London, there is just so much to see and do that you can’t possibly do it all in one trip. There are so many museums, like the Intrepid Air Sea and Space Museum on the Hudson – which has one of the remaining British Airways Corcorde’s. Then there are all the Broadway shows – both on and off Broadway with the big-name stars and some of the lesser-known classics. There’s also Stardust – having been there with JetBlue last year, it has to be on anyone’s list when going to New York – whether you like live Broadway music or not, it’s still an amazing experience!
On the second of my three visits to New York, I went at Thanksgiving (when it actually snowed and I was concerned that the flight might not operate!). The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is something you really have to see to be believed, never have I seen such a large and grand parade which lasts hours!
